Chidushim is a peer-reviewed academic journal published annually in Hebrew under the auspices of the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem.

The journal aims to stimulate discussion of the history of the Jews living in Germany and the German-speaking sphere. It should be noted here that the journal takes a broad view of history and papers may address different aspects of the historical perspective, including culture, philosophy, society, economy, anthropology, sport and the arts. Likewise, the journal will consider papers dealing with the interaction of Jews within the German-speaking sphere with Jews and non-Jews from other cultures and places, in Europe and beyond. In this respect the journal seeks to expand the discourse surrounding German Jews, placing it within relevant international and global contexts as well as opening the discussion to a transnational perspective. In accordance with these objectives, the journal serves as a forum for an innovative scholarship for senior and young scholars alike.

We invite established and young scholars to submit original unpublished papers to the journal’s editorial board. In exceptional cases papers that have already appeared in selected journals will be considered, provided the manuscript is submitted in Hebrew.

Papers should not exceed 10,000 words including footnotes. Please attach an abstract in both Hebrew and English (150-300 words), and take care to comply with the guidelines for the preparation of papers outlined on the Leo Baeck Institute site:

Please submit papers to the journal’s editorial office at chidushim@leobaeck.org by August 1, 2022.

Acceptance of papers for publication is subject to the standard review process employed by academic journals.

Chidushim publishes a regular section of book reviews.

Publishing houses, scholars and readers are invited to send us new and recently-published books in Hebrew or other languages, concerning the study of the history of the Jews of Germany and the wider German-speaking sphere.  A review of those books deemed suitable will be published in the journal.

Likewise, researchers who wish to propose a topic for a special edition are invited to send an abstract (up to 1,000 words) and abstracts of suggested articles. All abstracts and articles will undergo a scientific review.
