Arthur Prinz, who taught economics at the Berliner Freie Volkshochschule until his dismissal in 1933, was commissioned to write this book in the 1960s; he died in 1981 before completing the last chapter. It was later added by Avraham Barkai. Together the authors open up new vistas in the economic and social history of the German Jews.
