We are excited to announce that the Library of Lost Books is coming to Israel, closing the project’s journey around the world with a launch in Tel Aviv.
The Library of Lost Books is both a virtual memorial to the Berlin Hochschule für die Wissenschaft des Judentums that was destroyed by the Nazis in 1942 and an endeavor to continue writing the institute’s history by reuniting its library, which was looted by the Nazis, in a virtual space.
After a brief welcome by H.E. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Steffen Seibert, there will be a presentation of the project by Dr. Irene Aue-Ben-David, Director of the Leo Baeck Institute Jerusalem.
Thereafter, Prof. Avriel Bar-Levav and Dr. Anna Holzer-Kawalko will give expert lecture on the wider historical context of the project.
The event is a collaboration between Beit Ariela Tel Aviv and the Leo Baeck Institutes in Jerusalem and London.
The Library of Lost Books is funded by the EVZ Foundation and the German Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) in the scope of the educational agenda on Nazi injustice.
The event will take place at Shaar Zion – Beit Ariela Library, Sderot Shaul Hameleh 25 Tel Aviv.
